Scarlet is a 3 year old golden Cocker Spaniel who is being fostered in Worcestershire. She is a darling who exhibits most of the early issues found in ex-breeding dogs. She is nervous and timid but is already showing signs of becoming a lovely pet.
Scarlet is learning to trust humans and is still unsure. She doesn’t differentiate between men or women and is equally unsure about both. She always greets her foster mum when she comes in and she will come to her name if there’s a titbit involved. She is still not keen to be touched as she does not associate human contact with kindness but that is changing. If her foster mum approaches her on all fours she will let her stroke her head.
Scarlet is very good with most dogs but wary of very large and/or boisterous dogs. She stands her ground and waits for them to calm down before interacting. As far as cats go, she pays no attention to the resident cat so we think she could happily live with one.
In the home – She seems okay with everyday house sound but sudden movement can scare her. She has the run of her foster home and will sleep upstairs. She has jumped on sofa while her foster mum was sitting there but, if she’s on it when someone enters the room, she will get down. Often Scarlet can be found flat on her back in her bed on lounge floor. The good thing is that Scarlet is very curious about her environment, but just needs to gain in confidence. So far she doesn’t know what to do with toys.
Out and about – She has started to wag her tail and gets very excited about going out for a walk jumping and yelping. She’s good on lead but gets excited to go out and will try to pull and bark. She has been on a training lead attached to Flexi lead as she loves to run on the field. She will road walk on short lead just fine. She stopped when first car went past but ignored all others.
Scarlet’s ideal type of home would probably an active home with older children who will respect her space. She loves exercise and it would be great if she could have some free running. She takes her lead from the other dogs so she will need a resident dog or two to help her learn how to be a pet.
Scarlet does have a very slight heart murmur but does not need medication for it. She is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in South Wales.
