Derek is a three year old male Miniature Dachshund cross. Derek has come into our care from the radauti shelter in Romania. He is a quiet and shy little man who is still wary of human contact but progressing well in his foster home. After initial point blank refusal to go on walks Derek is now tolerating them but it may take a few more weeks before he actually feels secure enough to relax and enjoy them. He is still not approaching humans for fuss or contact but if he is sat on a lap he will stay there and accept a fuss. There is still a little bit of a journey ahead for Derek to be a “normal” confidant dog but only practise and patience can achieve this and his journey can continue in his forever home. Derek is fostered in Rugby, Warwickshire.

Derek is not suited to a hectic family life but ideally needs a calm and reasonably routined environment. A prospective adopter must understand that when they visit him in his foster home they should not expect him to run into their arms with his tail wagging but understand that he is a work in progress and that tail wag may take a while to earn. Derek is living very happily with cats and other dogs. Our adoption fee is £250. They are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (unless they are too young).
