Cleopatra (Cleo for short) is a 9 year old Basset Hound who is in an Oldies Club foster home in Gosport, Hampshire. She would love to live with someone who is home a lot of the time and can give her lots of fuss and attention. She would like a big garden to relax and sniff around in. She could live with older children and a calm canine companion.
Cleo loves other dogs she meets on walks. She was an only dog in her previous home but she is currently living with a resident laid-back older dog. Cleo will need a home without cats. Cleo loves meeting children when out and about. She is living with children aged over 12 years in foster care and could be rehomed to live with older, kind and sensible children.
Cleo loves everyone she meets on walks and all dogs too. She makes a point of saying hello to everyone and sits at their feet for strokes. Cleo hasn’t been walked off lead as her recall isn’t too good. Befitting of her regal status, when Queen Cleopatra decides she needs a rest, she will simply sit down. You just need to let her get on with resting until she is ready to walk on again, or if she needs to be moved more urgently, calmly give her treats for encouragement.
Cleo isn’t a morning person and so she prefers a walk later in the day, or in the evening. She is having two 20-minute walks per day, or one 40-minute walk, depending on how she is feeling on a particular day. Due to allergies, Cleo is probably best walked away from grassy areas.
Cleo loves her food and any treats she is given. She also loves having attention, strokes and cuddles. When happy, she will roll around the carpet, and when given belly rubs she will play with you. Cleo enjoys having a Kong, stuffed with carrots and chicken, and this will entertain her for hours. She loves to be bathed and is also partial to drinking water out of flower pots in the garden! She doesn’t like the hoover, mops or long sticks. She is OK about the dustpan and brush but she will bark at the hoover and prefers to go outside away from it.
Cleo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. Cleo has had pancreatitis in the past so she is kept on a special Royal Canin Kibble for meals and treats. Cleo has only chicken and carrots as treats as anything else upsets her stomach. She has ongoing, lifelong ear issues and needs a TrizChlor ear flush twice a week. She also has a skin condition for which she has a Malaseb Shampoo wash once per week – you need to wear gloves.
She had steroids when it flared up badly. It is perhaps a seasonal allergy and Cleo seems worse when she has been in the grass at the park, so she is now walked on the cycle track instead. Cleo has just started having monthly injections of Cytopoint for the skin condition. She has had conjunctivitis in both eyes and ulceration of her left eye. This has been treated with antibiotics and steroids. The vet advised that she will need a dental at some time in the next year.
