Belle – 4-5 year old female German Shepherd Dog

Beautiful girl Belle, is a semi coat black and tan girl who is absolutely stunning. She is a very calm and gentle girl. Belle enjoys human company and receiving lots cuddles. She walks well on her lead and enjoys going for walks. This poor girl was left tied to the gates of a Spanish shelter one night.

Belle will make a very loyal and loving family companion. Belle has not been tested for cats or children. Belle would prefer to be the only dog in her home and would not like to live with cats! She is gentle, playful, walks well on a lead.

Foster Report: She is an absolutely lovely girl who is very affectionate and adores cuddles with her family. Lovely to walk on the lead and whilst curious with other dogs outside of the home environment has shown no aggression when we have walked her, including in situations where dogs, cyclists etc just kept coming.

She sometimes doesn’t seem to know what things like cyclists or pushchairs are but gets nervous instead of defensive. Some caution will need to be exercised as she has been known to lunge into the road at cars or trucks due to lack of experience so will need to be kept on a short lead with a strong grip in these situations.

She is lovely, and she still behaves very much like a puppy in that she is very mouthy and jumps on her hind legs to paw at you quite a lot, which we were working on and she is getting better. Our vet felt it was quite possible that she was younger than we were told, possibly around 2 but obviously it is difficult to tell. She barks when left on her own until someone goes to see her again.

We would stress that she needs to be homed without another dog as although fine on walks she has been very territorial inside the home with our other German Shepherd and is quite jealous of him when he comes for attention. She absolutely loves to chew and will need lots of durable, strong toys to keep her occupied – we have found that she particularly enjoys deer antlers and bones along with stuffed Kongs etc. She also enjoys snuffing out treats in boxes and other enrichment games.

If she could be persuaded she would probably be really good at agility and things like that as she is a very intelligent girl who is very food oriented. She has extremely high energy levels so will need lots of walks – I took her for a two mile walk and after a 20 minute power nap she was running around like a nutter again.

Overall Bella is a lovely dog who will make someone who has time for her, can give her their full attention, is patient enough to teach her boundaries and manners, very happy. She needs the input of a puppy really and she truly is a lovely girl.

Current location is in a foster home in the UK.
